CHS Band to compete in Contest of Champions Saturday at MTSU
On Saturday Oct 25th, the Contest of Champions at MTSU will mark the end of the 2014 competitive season for the Columbia Central High School Marching Band. The CHS band will be competing against the top bands in the state with their program titled “SAFARI”. Ed and Kelly Medford would like to invite the community to come and see their show Monday night at the annual Community performance at 6 PM in the Lindsey Nelson Stadium at Maury County Park.

10:30am Practice begins with EVERYONE on the parking lot ready to start! (Due to ACT
testing we will have a “silent practice” on the parking lot and use the area by
the baseball field for warm up)
11:30am Load, Eat Lunch, Change into half uniform w/SAFARI shirt (CG in Full Uniform!)
12:15pm Depart for MTSU
3:45pm Prelims Performance (In AWESOME 73 degree or higher weather – YAY!!!!)
4:00pm Change out of uniform, eat
5:00pm Preliminary Awards, Finalists Announcement
If announced as a finalist, we’ll eat and then begin preparations for the evening show.
Parents will be contacted with times ASAP. If not selected, we will return to CHS by 6:30pm.

Students get into full uniform take equipment to stadium for pics & performance
4:30pm Section Pictures begin in the stadium
5:15pm Full Band Picture in the stadium / Concession stand open for guests
5:40pm Band Warm Up / Bleachers open for seating
6:00pm Performance of ‘SAFARI’ for parents, family, guests & 8th Graders
Announcements / 8th Graders join the band in performance arcs on the field
Pep Band performances with 8th graders
7:00pm Put away uniform, equipment in band room, dismiss
* Band Parents: We are asking for donations for concessions at the community performance and
in the band room for our visiting 8th grade students.
For our visiting 8th Graders, we request donations of drinks (individual bottles and cans please)
and desserts. Boosters will be providing them a pizza dinner in the band room while section
pictures are being taken in the stadium. For concessions we will continue our tradition of selling
Chili, Grilled Cheese, Hot Chocolate, Coffee, and Drinks on this night. Needs are as listed:
· Crockpots of Chili —– Around but not limited to 25 crockpots
· Butter, Bread, and Sliced Cheese (preferably not singly wrapped)
· Griddles and spatulas — about 8-10
· and of course Baked Goods ☺
Drinks and desserts for the 8th grade visit may be left in the band room by 4:30pm on Monday. Items
for the community performance will need to be taken to the concession stand at the football field
between 4:30-5:00pm that night (make sure that your name is on all personal items). Please specify if
your donations are for the 8th Grade visit (Band Room) or Community Performance (stadium).

concessions for the community performance to make this the most memorable night of the
marching season for our students & guests.
Remaining Marching Band Performances (no after-school practices after 10/27):
· October 31 – Away Football Game vs. Franklin County
· Any Football Playoff Games each Friday until the end of the football season
· December 1 – Columbia Christmas Parade (night time parade after school)
Contest of Champions Notes for Parents:
Directions & Parking: For GPS use this address: Faulkinberry Dr, Murfreesboro, TN 37132
Parking guides will assist spectators in various lots near the stadium. Our band buses will be
parked in the Greenhouse Lot on Lightning Way off of Greenland Drive. Tailgating will be
close to our buses. Parents will not be able to park in the Greenhouse Lot, but may be able
to park nearby.
General Admission Tickets are $15 each (plus tax/handling fees). Children under 11 are free.
Our pre-sold ticket section for Columbia Central fans is in Section 1RR: Rows 16-19 if you are
able to get close to that area. Call 615-898-5744 with any ticketing questions.
· Preliminary Performances begin at 10am (CHS performs at 3:45pm)
· Finals Performances begin at 7:30pm
